Ener-G-Rotors Awarded US Patent for Waste Heat to Power Technology

New patent strengthens protection of economical heat to power solutions

May 15, 2014 – Rotterdam, NY

Ener-G-Rotors, Inc., a pioneer in waste heat to power, announced today it has received new intellectual property protection with regard to technology that expands its heat to power invention, a unique organic Rankine cycle (ORC) expander technology, in the form of patent US 8,714,951. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) awarded Ener-G-Rotors the patent on May 6, 2014.

The expander technology is the heart of Ener-G-Rotors’ ORCA™ system, which uses organic Rankine cycle technology to covert low grade waste heat into economical clean power. The ORCA™ heat to power appliance is an organic Rankine cycle system designed to generate 30kW to 60kW of emissions free electricity from low temperature waste heat between 150°-250°F.The invention is a unique heat to electricity technology, as no other technologies can work economically at these sizes and temperatures.

The increased efficiency of the expander and system creates a new opportunity for small scale, low temperature heat to electricity conversion. Because of the efficient and simple design of the system, the ORCA™ is the most economical way to convert low grade heat into electricity at small sizes and low temperatures.

“This is an important protection of our technology that allows for very high efficiency expanders, which can achieve MW turbine efficiencies at small scale, as low as 5kW”, said CEO Michael Newell.  “And because of these efficiencies we can give customers the kind of paybacks they require.”

The ORCA™ solution is economical, distributed, modular, easy to install, and non-disruptive to the process producing the waste heat. It is designed to save companies money by capturing low-temperature waste heat and converting it to emissions free electricity which is used on site, reducing the electricity purchased from the grid and lowering greenhouse gas emissions with paybacks as short as two years. The ORCA™ system effectively capture waste heat from stationary engines, CHP systems, and industrial processes, saving customers’ money, increasing energy efficiency, and lowering emissions.

Ener-G-Rotors, Inc. is a Rotterdam NY based clean energy company commercializing the ORCA™, a revolutionary appliance that economically converts low temperature heat to carbon free electricity for a little as $.03/kWh, the lowest Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) of any generating technology, representing an economic breakthrough in heat to power technologies. Deploying the fuel free and emission free ORCA™ solution, customers can lower energy costs, reduce their carbon footprint, and increase energy efficiency.
