Ener-G-Rotors’ Waste Heat to Power Solution Increases Efficiency of Combined Heat and Power System at Bates Troy, Inc.

Ener-G-Rotors, Inc., a pioneer in economical, distributed, waste heat to power, has successfully commissioned its revolutionary ORCA™ system at Bates Troy Inc., a commercial laundry in Binghamton, NY. The ORCA™ system will generate fuel free, emission free electricity using the excess thermal energy from Bates Troy’s Tecogen Inverde combined heat and power (CHP) system. The project was done in cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) under a program that promotes adoption of emerging technologies at commercial sites.

Ener-G-Rotors’ ORCA™ system generates electricity from low temperature waste heat between 150°-250°F. Bates Troy uses four 100kW Tecogen Inverde engines to generate electricity and hot water at 195°-215°F for the laundry process. When the thermal energy is not being used for the laundry process, it was being rejected in rooftop coolers. The Ener-G-Rotors ORCA™ system now utilizes this unused thermal energy to produce additional electricity with no additional fuel costs or emissions.

This additional electricity increases the efficiency of the CHP system and lowers the cost of running the rooftop coolers, while producing clean electricity that saves money and lowers Bates Troy’s peak demand. The system is completely automated, and starts and stops depending on the excess thermal energy generated by the CHP system.
